Power of Time Management

4-week workshop series: Sep 18—Oct 9

This fall, CV Fridays will feature a four-part workshop to help students reclaim control of their time toward reaching their goals. Each session includes research-backed strategies and tools delivered in an interactive and fun way.

Workshops happen right after dinner at CV Fridays, from 6pm-7pm.

Sep 18 / Pt. 1 — Who Controls My Time? | This first session lays the groundwork for the whole series. We'll get to know each other, then take an honest look at how time actually gets spent versus how we assume it gets spent -- most people are surprised by the gap. You'll learn the basics of self-reflection and goal-setting, and be introduced to self-monitoring as a tool for building real awareness of your own patterns.

Sept 25 / Pt. 2 — Stop the Scroll | What's happening in our brains when we struggle with timesink habits? This session looks at the psychology behind distraction and focus. From there, we'll cover practical tools for regaining focus, including apps, browser extensions, and simple changes to your physical environment. We'll also introduce approaches to to-do lists and timeblocking, so you leave with methods you can implement right away.

Oct 2 / Pt. 3 — How to Avoid Burnout | Burnout is a serious issue many of us struggle with. This session addresses: staying up late, feeling constantly behind, and running on an empty tank. We'll look honestly at "grind culture" and the pressure to constantly optimize, and ask what that pressure actually costs. The goal is to leave with a clearer, more honest picture of what real rest and sustainable self-care look like.

Oct 9 / Pt. 4 — AMA w/ the Experts | The final session opens the floor to young adults who've navigated these same questions in their own lives. This is a chance to ask real questions and hear honest answers from people a few steps further down the road.

About the Facilitator

John Park has spent most of his career working with young people in schools, after-school programs, leadership councils, research teams, and camps.

Time management wasn't something John figured out early. High school piled on pressure the way it does for a lot of students, and he learned to cope by pushing harder rather than stepping back. That pattern followed him to college, where it eventually caught up with him -- he burned out, and had to rebuild how he approached his time from scratch. That meant learning what true rest looks like, and figuring out what to prioritize in life. His faith and relationship with Jesus were central to that process.

He’s far from a perfect time manager and still struggles sometimes. That's part of why he wanted to build this series -- not as someone who has it all figured out, but as someone still growing and learning.

John graduated from Yale University with a B.A. in Statistics & Data Science.
